Petra tou Romiou

Petra tou Romiou, near Kouklia in the Limassol district, is one of Cyprus's most iconic coastal landmarks and, according to legend, the mythical birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite. The dramatic rock formations rising from clear blue waters make this a favourite stop for photography, and roadside viewpoints along the coast offer sweeping panoramas ideal for capturing the shoreline. A free parking area sits opposite the site, and stairs near the shop lead down through a small underpass to the pebble beach below.

Visitors can walk the shore or, for believers in the legend, swim around the rock to invoke the goddess of love. Note that swimming can be tricky over the stones and climbing on the rocks is prohibited for safety. The well-maintained path to the waterfront suits most visitors, and a coffee shop upstairs offers a place to pause and enjoy the view.

Highly rated by thousands of visitors, it is best enjoyed as a scenic short stop; expect large crowds during the May–October tourist season.
