The Archaeological Site of Nea Paphos is one of Cyprus' most remarkable cultural landmarks, part of the Unesco World Heritage listing in Paphos. Set in a sprawling seaside location, the site is famed for its exceptionally well-preserved Roman mosaics, especially those in the House of Dionysos, which draw history lovers from around the world. Beyond the mosaics, visitors can wander among the remains of an Odeon (open-air theatre), the ancient city walls incorporating natural rock formations, and other structures, with the nearby lighthouse visible from within the grounds.
Plan for roughly two to three hours to properly explore the different houses and archaeological areas. Entry is inexpensive and ample parking sits by the entrance, making it easy to visit. For richer context, the Paphos Unesco app offers informative maps and audio tours.
Late afternoon visits reward you with quieter paths and warm golden light over the ruins, giving the whole site a timeless, atmospheric feel. Basic on-site facilities such as vending machines are available, helpful during warmer months. A must-visit for anyone interested in archaeology, ancient history and Cypriot heritage.
